Eke Panuku, in collaboration with Auckland Council, the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board and Mana Whenua, are working on an upgrade of the Lagoon Edge reserve in Panmure. The vision is to make the reserve a place that celebrates the cultural and historical significance of the lagoon and is a destination for locals and visitors alike.
The upgrade will include new seating, public toilets, drinking fountains, cycle parking, better lighting, and a skatepark spectator area. More public space will also be created through moving the Lagoon Pool and Leisure Centre fence line back to create a greater reserve area. New trees will be planted along with additional planting and landscaping elements. Inspired by Mana Whenua narratives, the Lagoon Edge reserve upgrade includes designs from artist Lorna Rikihana (Ngāti Paoa, Ngāti Haua, Ngāti Wairere).
The works will begin in the middle of June and construction will take around 9 months to complete. Please note that the skatepark will close for a period of a few months during construction to allow for the works to be completed more efficiently. The public toilets will completely close for the duration of the works as they are part of the upgrade.
